Congratulations Olivia, aged 11, from Leyland and Helen, aged 60, from Ulnes Walton! Their artworks have been chosen as the winners for my South Ribble Creative Arts Competition 
A few weeks ago, I asked for your help in showing leaders gathering at the #COP26 summit from across the world how much we value our nature here in South Ribble 
Many of you took on the challenge but there were two masterpieces that I think showed the passion for keeping our environment safe and healthy. First winner from the youth category is Olivia Pilkington from Seven Stars Primary School.
Olivia created her art at Community Network and Outreach Service Youth Group after being inspired by a lesson on "going green" at her school. I presented her art to Alok Sharma, the President Designate of COP26 to inspire him to work hard to protect our planet for future generations 
Alok was amazed at the quality of the points she raised and despite being really busy working with 200 countries to help our planet, and asked me to pass on his personal thanks for her amazing efforts.
Winner of the Adult Category, Helen Williams, says she was inspired by the local tracks in Ulnes Walton. The tracks are walked daily by many and were a great source of joy for many during the pandemic.
Huge thank you for everyone who submitted their artwork to my competition. It was not an easy choice, but the message of both Helen's and Olivia's work was something I felt could inspire leaders from across the world at the COP26 Climate Summit.
South Ribble Creative Arts Competition
In the run up to COP26 summit in Glasgow, where world leaders are gathering to make important decisions and commitments to prevent the effects of climate change, I think we all have a role to play. Now I’m looking for your help to convince world leaders to have the courage to commit to much-needed financial commitments and initiatives.
I’m launching a creative arts competition to do just this – inspire the leaders at COP26 to preserve our beautiful green spaces here in South Ribble. I want you to go out and be inspired by our local environment – by parks, rivers, canals, fields and wildlife – and use your imagination to create a piece of artwork, that I can then share during the COP26 summit in Glasgow.
I will pick the two winning designs after the closing date of 25th October 2021.
They will then be presented during the COP26 Summit, as well as being printed onto a canvas and displayed in both my constituency office in Leyland and my office in Westminster.
I am really looking forward to seeing what you can come up with, to celebrate our local environment!
The competition is run in two categories:
- 11–18-year-olds
- Over 18-year-olds
In order to participate in the 11-18-year-olds category we require a completed parent/guardian permission slip, that can be found attached at the bottom of this page, to be submitted with the artwork.
To participate:
You must be a resident in the South Ribble Parliamentary Constituency. If you are not sure, you can find your constituency here: Find your MP - MPs and Lords - UK Parliament
Create your artwork in any of the following ways:
- On an editing software such as Adobe Creative Clouds tools, GIMP, etc.
- Any kind of paint, such as oil, watercolour, etc.
- Pen & Pencil (not a sketch only)
If you are under 18, print out parent/guardian permission slip and submit a completed slip with your artwork.
Submit a high-quality picture of your submission to katherine.fletcher.mp@parliament.uk with the subject line “Creative Arts Competition”, your name and age. Please include your full postal address and a phone number in the body of the text & attach the image of your artwork in the email. If we have received your email successfully, you will get a confirmation email.
The deadline for all entries is the 25th October and any entry submitted after that will not be considered.
Please note that we will need the original artwork to be presented during the COP26 summit so please keep the original artwork until the competition winner is announced. All entrants will be acknowledged.
Terms & Conditions
By entering the competition entrants accept these terms and conditions below, together with any specific instructions and terms for such competition which may be mentioned in any electronic messages, or on the website, or communicated to entrants in any other way. Such competition information shall prevail in the event of there being any inconsistency between these competition terms and conditions and any competition information.
Competition Entry
The competition is open to all residents in the South Ribble Parliamentary Constituency aged 11 and older. We ask you to provide your full postal address when submitting your entry to confirm you are a constituent.
Each entrant aged 18 years or under must submit their entry with a complete permission slip. A submission without an accompanying permission slip will be invalid and will not be entered into the competition. This permission form must be completed by the Parent/Guardian of the child submitting the artwork.
The competition will launch on 29 September 2021. It will close at 11.59pm on 25th October 2021. Any entries received after the closing of the competition will be invalid and will not be entered into the competition.
Entrants also warrant that they are the copyright owners of any copyright works submitted, and Katherine Fletcher MP’s use of such works (which you will permit) will not infringe the rights of any third party. By submitting your entry, you give the office of Katherine Fletcher MP to reproduce the design in other formats, such as canvas, as well as publish it on social media, website, newsletter and any political campaigning material by the CCHQ or Katherine Fletcher MP.
Only one competition entry can be submitted per child. Multiple children from the same household can submit one entry each to the competition.
Please keep the original artwork until the competition winner is announced as we may require it in order to reproduce it in canvas.
Katherine Fletcher MP will not be liable to reimburse expenses incurred in making an entry in any competition.
